The number of students studying in branches of Russian universities located abroad exceeds 32 thousand, RIA Novosti reports.

Most of them get education in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. There are more than eight thousand students in each of these Central Asian republics. Almost six thousand people study in Kazakhstan, a little less than three thousand students – in Belarus.

Russian universities are becoming more popular in Syria, where interest in learning the Russian language is growing rapidly. Each year, the Russian government allocates five hundred budget places to universities for Syrian students as part of the quota. Last year, almost three thousand applications were received for these places.
