More than seven thousand patterns and ornaments created during the history of Russia from the 9th to the 20th century are included in the online archive Ornamika.ru. Over two years, dozens of designers and illustrators have been collecting patterns in more than two hundred techniques.

Ornamika has become the largest digital archive of Russian patterns. According to the author of the project, Maria Lolate, work on the project carries on. Specialists studied patterns and ornaments from libraries and now they are going to proceed with museum archives and private collections.

The online archive presents images of ornaments, as well as information about them. The user can search for the desired pattern by geography, individual elements and composition.

According to Maria Lolate, the goal of the project is to make information about the ornaments of the peoples of Russia accessible and understandable in different countries of the world. The website operates in Russian, the English and Chinese versions of the website will be added soon. A series of offline exhibitions and master classes is also planned as part of the project.
