Russian writer Guzel Yakhina receives international award from Emir Kusturica

Russian writer Guzel Yakhina received the Ivo Andrich award in the Best Book nomination for My Children novel. The prize was handed to her by famous director and musician Emir Kusturica, the Year of Literature website reports.

Yakhina’s novel tells about the life of a German teacher who lives in a German colony in the Volga region, the plot covers a period of time from the October Revolution to the start of World War II. During the award ceremony, the writer underlined the need for the construction of new cultural bridges between peoples in today's turbulent times.

The award ceremony was held in Andrichgrad - the “museum city”, created with the participation of Emir Kusturica in Visegrad. Four years ago, another Russian writer was awarded the same prize - Zakhar Prilepin received the award for his novel The Abode and the collection of short stories Seven Lives.
