New Government starts work in Russia

The Russian president has appointed the new government, the Kremlin’s website reports. Mikhail Mishustin will have nine deputies. Andrey Belousov, who was previously an assistant to the president, has become the first deputy. The government office is now headed by Dmitry Grigorenko, a former deputy head of the Federal Tax Service.

Victoria Abramchenko, Tatyana Golikova, Yuri Borisov, Dmitry Chernyshenko, Alexey Overchuk, Marat Khusnullin were appointed Vice Prime Ministers. Yuri Trutnev will combine the positions of Deputy Prime Minister and Presidential Envoy in the Far East.

Minister of Defense Sergey Shoigu, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov, Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev, Transport Minister Yevgeny Dietrich, Energy Minister Alexander Novak retained their posts. Finance Minister Anton Siluanov has also retained his position in the cabinet, although not as a deputy prime minister. Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov, Minister of Natural Resources Dmitry Kobylkin, the Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev, Minister for Civil Defense, Emergencies and Disaster Response Evgeni Zinichev, Minister for Development of the Far East and the Arctic Alexander Kozlov also kept their positions.

Valery Falkov, who took the post of rector of the Tyumen State University in 2018, was appointed Minister of Science and Higher Education. 

Sergey Kravtsov, who led the Rosobrnadzor since 2013, has been appointed Minister of Enlightenment. He dealt with the issues of conducting the Unified State Examination and the State Final Examination, the licensing of universities and many other tasks.

Olga Lyubimova, who served as the head of the cinema department in Ministry of Culture, will take over Vladimir Medinsky’s position. A graduate of Moscow State University and Russian University of Theatre Arts, a journalist and theater expert, Lyubimova is known as a screenwriter, producer, editor of dozens of documentaries.

Maxim Reshetnikov, former governor of the Perm Territory, became Minister of Economic Development. In 2012-2017, he worked as Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Economics.

Maksut Shadaev was appointed Minister of Digital Development, Telecommunications and Mass Communications. He was previously responsible of digital platforms at Rostelecom. Mikhail Murashko was picked as Minister of Health. He headed Ministry of Health of the Komi Republic for five years and led the Roszdravnadzor since 2015. 

Vladimir Yakushev was re-appointed Minister of Construction Industry, Housing and Utilities. The post of Minister of Sports went to Oleg Matytsin, President of International University Sports Federation. Anton Kotyakov, who previously held the post of Deputy Minister of Finance, became Minister of Labor.
