Kantemir Balagov's Beapole was awarded the FIPRESCI prize of the International Federation of Film Critics as The Best Foreign Language Film at the Palm Springs International Film Festival in the United States, RIA Novosti reports.

The action takes place in Leningrad in 1945 after the siege was lifted. The feature tells about two girls who survived the war and try to return to peaceful life in a ruined city.

Balagov, for whom Beapole became the second full-length film, thanked the festival for the prestigious award. According to the director, he is glad that the film on the post-war injury was understood outside of Russia.

Beapole has won several major international and Russian awards and has been screened in many countries around the world as part of the Days of Russian Cinema. The feature was included in the long list of applicants for the best international feature film category but did not make to the shortlist.

Russkiy Mir reported that the Beanpole would be screened in US cinemas for the Russian-speaking and English-speaking audience, special screenings are also planned.
