The Hermitage museum will devote the exhibition to the cultural heritage of the Italian artist and architect Raphael. It will include masterpieces stored in the museum funds, as well as works from the collection of the Louvre and other collections in Russia and Europe, TASS reports.

The international project is dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the death of the great painter. It will trace the influence of Raphael on the art of Europe from the 16th century to the present day. Art connoisseurs will see hundreds of paintings, graphic and applied art objects, sculptures created not only by Raphael, but also by Giulio Romano, Nicolas Poussin, Pablo Picasso, Alexander Ivanov and many other prominent authors who in one way or another correlated their work with Raphael’s masterpieces.

Part of the exhibits will be shown to the public for the first time. One of the most anticipated events of the project will be the display of the frescoes of the Raphael school that have undergone restoration.

The Hermitage holds two works by Raphael -  Conestabile Madonna created in 1502-1503, and the Holy Family, which dates back to 1506. The museum funds also possess the copies of the frescoes from the Loggia of Raphael in Vatican. They were commissioned by Catherine the Great at the end of the 18th century.

The opening of the exposition is scheduled for December 2020.
