Beanpole represents Russia at California film festival

Beanpole by director Kantemir Balagov represents Russia in California at the International Palm Springs Festival. The screening opened on Thursday, January 2, it will present more than 180 features from 81 countries, TASS reports.

51 premieres are scheduled to take place during the forum. The jury and the audience will watch the Russian feature three times - on January 6, 7 and 12. The festival will open with An Almost Ordinary Summer by Italian director Simone Godano and close with Military Wives by Peter Cattaneo.

The Palm Springs festival specializes in screening Oscar contending movies.  As Russkiy Mir reported, Beanpole was selected as the Russian submission for the best international feature film category at the 2020 Oscars. It will compete with nine features by directors from France, South Korea, the Czech Republic, Estonia and other countries. Oscar nominees will be announced on January 13.
