The bust of Pyotr Tchaikovsky has been established at the Gewandhaus concert hall in Leipzig, the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper writes. It was created as part of the large-scale Russian Seasons project and was donated to Ghevandhaus by Russia. The author of the bronze sculpture is a graduate of the Academy of Arts Ekaterina Pilnikova. Her work became an interpretation of the work of the Russian sculptor of the late 19th - early 20th centuries Robert Bach.

According to the director of Russian Seasons project Alexey Lebedev, this bust is the first sculptural image of the Russian composer in one of the most famous European concert halls. He called the monument another step towards strengthening cultural ties between Russia and Germany. It is gratifying, Lebedev added, that it was made possible to contribute to the preservation of the heritage of Russian culture.

The idea of establishing a bust was made by the leadership of the concert hall and city administration. Gewandhaus is a place where Tchaikovsky had his debut as a conductor. The Tchaikovsky monument was erected in the concert hall at the beginning of the 20th century but disappeared during the Great Patriotic War.
