Many unique finds were discovered by scientists during the preparatory work for the construction of the Crimean bridge, RIA Novosti reports.

The area of archaeological excavations exceeded fifty-six hectares, about a million artifacts were found on this territory. About hundreds of thousands of them have historical and scientific value. After the study, the finds will be handed to museums located on both banks of the Kerch Strait.

The large-scale project helped preserve the cultural heritage. Interesting discoveries were made at the surroundings of the bridge.

In the spring of 2017, archaeologists discovered the head of an ancient Greek deity. This is a unique artifact for the Northern Black Sea coast. Presumably, the sculpture dates from the 5th century BC. The skeleton of an ancient whale was also found there. The bones stayed in the geological layers for ten million years.

An ancient manor was also discovered in the vicinity of Kerch. Historians believe that it could belong to a representative of the dynasty of the Bosporus kings. The direction of the route was changed to preserve the historical monument.

Russkiy Mir reported that the opening ceremony of the railway part of the Crimean bridge would be held on Monday, December 23. It will be attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The bridge connected Crimea and mainland Russia through the Kerch Strait. Thus, the railway connection interrupted five years ago will be restored.

The first train with passengers will cross the bridge on the night of December 25. It will hit the road on December 23 from St. Petersburg. Its final destination will be Sevastopol.
