Sergey Yesenin Prize awarded at Festival of Russian language in India

The annual All-Indian Festival of Russian Language and Literature ended in the capital of the South Indian state of Kerala, Rossotrudnichestvo website reported. It took place for the tenth time.

The main event of the closing ceremony was the presentation of a literary prize. The award bears the name of the famous Russian poet Sergey Yesenin. Traditionally, it is awarded for contribution to the development of the popularization of Russian literature in India. This year's laureate was Megha Pansare, the writer and translator from Russian into Marathi. The founders of the award are the State Museum of Sergey Yesenin and Rossotrudnichestvo.

The guests of the festival were famous politicians and public figures. They were joined by admirers of Russian literature, compatriots, students and teachers of local universities.

Speakers at the evening emphasized that the relations that linked the two countries were becoming stronger from year to year. It is through cultural exchange between nations that a lasting friendship of the states is built. And in this regard, such large-scale events as this festival acquire special significance.

According to the head of the representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo in India Fedor Rozovsky, next year all five Russian cultural and scientific centers in India will take part in the celebrations dedicated to the anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic war and the 95th anniversary of public diplomacy.

Russkiy Mir reported that the festival included thematic lectures and quizzes in Indian schools and colleges, a seminar, as well as the Legends of Russian Literature photo exhibition. Among its exhibits were more than fifty photographs of Russian writers. The locals were able to see the images of Pushkin, Tolstoy, Gogol, Yesenin, Lermontov and others.
