The book about the history of the Russian Cossack community in Australia was presented by the creator of the first Russian museum in Sydney Mikhail Ovchinnikov. The presentation was held at the Russian Consulate General in Sydney with the participation of Russian Ambassador to Australia Alexey Pavlovsky, Consul General Igor Arzhaev and Russian compatriots living in Sydney, TASS reports.

Mikhail Ovchinnikov said that representatives of the Russian community of Sydney have long dreamed of creating a Cossack record for their children and future generations. He called the published book “fundamental work” and stated that the publication is likely to continue, there are already ideas that can be embodied in the second volume.

The presentation of the publication was accompanied by an exhibition of old books, church utensils, costumes and other things that Russian emigrants brought to Australia and which reminded them of their distant homeland. The presented exhibits belonged to Russian families who, by the will of fate, ended up in Australia in the 20th century.

Mikhail Ovchinnikov also shared plans for the expansion and development of the museum. It is planned to erect a new building with a library, a chapel and a hotel in which guests of the Russian community can stay. There are also plans to open branches of the museum in a number of Russian cities.
