The festival of the Russian language, literature and culture began in the city of Trivandrum, the capital of the Indian state of Kerala, according to the Rossotrudnichestvo website. A large-scale cultural project unites all of India, it is held every year. This festival is held for the tenth time in a row.

The festival opened with the Legends of Russian Literature photo exhibition. Among its exhibits are more than fifty photographs of Russian writers. The locals were able to see the images of Pushkin, Tolstoy, Gogol, Yesenin, Lermontov and others. Cultural figures, fans of Russian literature, compatriots and others visited the event.

The Indian writer Pradeep Panangad recalled that the peoples of the two countries have been linked by strong friendship for more than a century. And literature has greatly contributed to the development and strengthening of these ties. Translations of books by Russian authors have helped the people of India learn more about the tremendous wealth of Russian culture, discover the spiritual world and traditions of the peoples living in Russia. The works of Russian writers have become an inexhaustible source of inspiration for Indian writers.

Speakers noted that the festival made a huge contribution to the promotion of the Russian language, literature and culture in India.

Indian artist Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan painted a portrait of Pushkin right in front of the visitors. His work was very warmly received by the public.

The festival program includes thematic lectures and quizzes in Indian schools and colleges, a seminar, as well as the awarding ceremony of the prestigious Sergey Yesenin Prize for contribution to the promotion of Russian literature in India.
