Russia won first place in the team event of the final the Grand Prix series in figure skating, which was held in Turin. The team gained 12 medals, three of which are gold ones. The greatest success was achieved by single women, who hit the entire podium, TASS reported.
Alyona Kostornaya (single skating), juniors Kamila Valieva and the duet Apollinaria Panfilova and Dmitry Rylov won gold awards. Kostornaya performed brilliantly, setting two world records. This allowed her to beat her main rivals in the Grand Prix - Anna Shcherbakova and Alexander Trusov, who took second and third places respectively.
All three athletes train with renowned coach Eteri Tutberidze. Kostornaya has been showing good results in adult figure skating for several years, and for Shcherbakova and Trusova this season was the debut at the highest level. Alexandra Trusova, who won bronze in the Grand Prix final, became a triumph of the competition, the first in the history of women's single skating to land a quadruple flip.
According to the results of the competition, the Russians became the first in the medal standings, the Americans are the second, having won half the awards. Third place was shared by the teams of Japan and China.
