Russia kicks off New Year festivities

The Ryazan holiday New Year's Capital of Russia, the Udmurt festival Fairy-Tale Heroes in the Homeland of Tol Babay and The Birthday of the Arkhangelsk Snowman are among the three most interesting and popular tourist events for weekend trips. The list was compiled by one of the analytical agencies, RIA Novosti reported.

In Ryazan, which has become the New Year’s capital of Russia under the project of the Ministry of Culture of Russia, the festivities will last from December 7 to January 7. On the opening day of the New Year's marathon in Ryazan, a dance flash mob and a laser show were held.

One of the central events of the holiday will be the Father Frost parade - about two thousand bearded wizards will line up in a column. Special guests of the procession will be Father Frost from Veliky Ustyug and the New Year wizard from Yakutia.

The Udmurt festival took place on December 7 at the Tol Babay estate in the village of Sharkan, on Sunday the New Year show program moved to the circus of Izhevsk. 

The birthday of the Arkhangelsk Snowman was celebrated on December 7 in one of the city parks. It offered fabulous performances, attractions, the lighting of a Christmas tree and a festive fireworks.
