Tchaikovsky Festival opens in Mexico City

Tchaikovsky - the Soul of Russia Festival begins on Thursday, November 28, in the Mexican capital. It is conducted by the Russkiy Mir Foundation and the Russian House in Mexico non-governmental organization with the support of Rossotrudnichestvo.

The famous pianist Vladimir Petrov will perform the works of Pyotr Tchaikovsky at the opening of the festival. Another guest from Russia will be Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Valery Kuleshov. Both pianists are multiple laureates of Russian and international competitions.

The festival program includes an exhibition of books. It brings together Russian-language publications, as well as books by Russian writers translated into Spanish. A concert is planned with participation of musicians from Russia, Mexico, the USA and Kazakhstan. Famous performers will give master classes in front of their young colleagues.

Residents of Mexico City will be invited to an exhibition dedicated to the life and work of the great Russian composer. Personal belongings of Tchaikovsky, his photographs, portraits will be put on display there. The festival’s program also includes the Treasures of the Russian Empire exhibition. It presents handicrafts of Russia, unique paintings and jewelry icons, Easter eggs, church utensils, porcelain figurines and other works of art.
