Russian universities have been included in the list of the best universities presented by Times Higher Education, RIA Novosti reports. THE ratings were compiled in the areas of physical sciences, life sciences, medical and health sciences and psychology.

The physical sciences category includes thirty-three Russian universities. More than half of them participate in the 5 – 100 Project. The highest place - forty-fifth – is taken by Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT). It gained five points in comparison with last year. The top 200 includes Moscow Engineering Physics Institute (MEPhI), Novosibirsk State University (NSU) and Tomsk State University (TSU). Russian higher education is most widely represented in this section. At the same time, the majority of universities improved their performance compared with last year or maintained their positions.

The ranking of life sciences includes nine Russian universities. Of these, two thirds are from the 5-100 Project, Including MIPT, NSU, TSU and Kazan Federal University.

Higher School of Economics maintains the firm position in the top 200 of the psychology category for the second year in a row.

The 5-100 Program aims to increase the competitiveness of Russia's higher education institutions in world rankings. Russia’s Cabinet of Ministers has allocated funds so that after five years at least five universities are in the first hundred of world educational ratings. The program has already proven its effectiveness, as several Russian universities have significantly improved their ranking positions.
