France hosts Russian film festival for 27th time

The Russian film festival opened on Tuesday, November 19, in the French town of Honfleur, TASS reported. This year the event is held for the twenty-seventh time. The public will be able to see several dozen films shot recently by Russian directors. More than half a thousand of Russian feature have been screened in Normandy during the existence of the festival. The Atlantic Ocean Forum is the oldest and largest Russian film festival in France.

According to the organizers, the opening film will be the comedy of Anna Parmas’s comedy Let's Divorce! became the opening film for the festival. The representative of the forum Elena Duffort called the family theme the main one this season. A retrospective prepared by the Mosfilm film studio and a special program are devoted to this topic. It includes Nearest & Dearest by Ksenia Zueva, Van Goghs by Sergey Livnev and Little Sister by Alexander Galibin.

The festival also addressed the topic of Russian history. Honfleur brought together people who are well acquainted with Russian history, that is why films dedicated to different eras of the country's life will be presented at the forum.

There are eight features on the competition program, including Text by Klim Shipenko, In Cape Town Port by Alexander Veledinsky, Once in Trubchevsk by Larisa Sadilova and Imagined Wolf by Valeria Gai Germanika. The features will be evaluated by an authoritative jury headed by the famous French director Gerard Krawczyk.

In addition to the Grand Prix the jury will choose winners in the best screenplay, best female and male roles and best debut categories. Spectators will also name their favorite. A wide out-of-competition program has been prepared, including feature, documentary and animation films.

The screening of a new film by Vasily Chiginsky called Lev Yashin, the Dream Goalkeeper will become the special event of the festival.  It will hit the theaters in Russia at the end of November.
