Russia is one of the most attractive countries for students from abroad, it has caught up with Germany and France on this criterion. This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia Mikhail Kotyukov at the UNESCO General Conference in Paris. According to the minister, in the next five years it is planned to double the number of foreign students in Russian universities, TASS reports.

According to the presented figures, every year about 15 thousand students from dozens of countries around the world become students of Russian universities at the expense of the federal budget. The countries, which get paid quotas for students from Russia, include those where the hostilities are taking place. For example, this year more than 540 Syrians became students of Russian universities.

Kotyukov spoke about plans to double the number of foreign students in the next five years. According to the minister, a special project contributes to this task, in which Russia is actively developing the quality of education and science, as well as working to improve the infrastructure of universities.

Russkiy Mir reported earlier that an increase in interest in Russian higher education was also noted on Internet platforms that promoted Russian universities in the world. According to the Internet resource Russia.Study, the number of applications from foreigners for higher education in Russia submitted through the digital platform increased in 2019 by 20%. About 115 thousand foreigners took advantage of the remote filing of applications.
