05.11.2019

Mutual understanding between the peoples of Russia and the United States is built on a solid foundation of culture and history, Russian ambassador Anatoly Antonov said. In his opinion, even the difficulties that appeared in the relations of the two countries some time ago will not be able to destroy them. This was stated by the senior diplomat at a celebration dedicated to the National Unity Day. The event took place on November 4 in Washington, RIA Novosti reported.

The ambassador recalled that the love of the American public for the works of Russian composers, Russian ballet and books by Russian classics was enduring.

Russkiy Mir reported that this holiday was one of the youngest, the country celebrated it for the fourteenth time. It is dedicated to the events of 1612, when Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky gathered a people's militia and drove the Poles out of Moscow. Historically, the holiday is associated with the end of the Time of Troubles in Russia in the seventeenth century, it has become a symbol of the unity of the people and their ability to unite in difficult periods. Later, November 4 in the church calendar was the day of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God - the patroness of the militias.
