A week of Russian culture is held in the Mexican city of Puebla, one of the largest centers of the country's economic and political life, the Rossotrudnichestvo website reports. The opening ceremony of the festival took place in the central city square. Its guests and participants were local businessmen, students, schoolchildren, teachers and government officials.

According to Russian Ambassador Viktor Coronelli, relations between the two countries have developed over the years. He recalled that at the end of next year would mark the 130th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

The diplomat called Mexico one of the most important partners of Russia, not only in Latin America, but also around the world. He also expressed the hope that the honorary Russian consulate would start working in Puebla soon.

The head of the administration Claudia Vivanko is confident that Russia's presence in the city opens up new opportunities for development. The festival will allow residents to get to know Russia more closely, expand contacts in various fields, such as culture, science and education. The start of the festival program was the opening of a photo exhibition, which presents views of the historical and cultural attractions of Moscow and St. Petersburg.

Feature screenings, exhibitions, conferences, book presentations, as well as performances by local music and dance groups are also planned.
