Works from the repertoire of the Jazz Orchestra named after Oleg Lundstrem, accumulated over many years of work, will be performed on October 31 in the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow at a musical evening dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the legendary orchestra, the website of the Ministry of Culture of Russia reports.

The unique orchestra that glorified Soviet and Russian jazz all over the world was born in China. In 1934, Russian musicians from Harbin created an ensemble led by 18-year-old Oleg Lundstrem. A few years later, the team became widely known in China among the local population and emigrants. In 1947, the musicians came to the embassy of the USSR and announced their desire to return to their historical homeland.

In the Soviet Union, where jazz was not honored at that time, the orchestra was given the opportunity to work - records were released, concerts were held throughout the country. Over the years, Lundstrom and his musicians gave about ten thousand concerts in five hundred cities of the USSR. The orchestra often represented the country abroad - in the USA, European countries and other parts of the world.

Five years ago, celebrating the 80th anniversary of the orchestra, the band was included in the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest big band in the world. The Oleg Lundstrem Orchestra has trained many prominent musicians who have gained international fame. Now in the team led by Boris Frumkin, many young musicians work.
