Serbian president Alexander Vucic promised to head the procession of the Immortal Regiment in Belgrade. The Serbian authorities always show respect for the freedom fighters of the country - both fallen and alive, he assured. The leader of Serbia expressed gratitude to the Russian authorities for their assistance in preserving historical memory, RIA Novosti reported. The head of state is confident that Belgrade will not allow rewriting the historical pages of the Second World War.

Vučić recalled that the greatest sacrifices for the victory had to be made by the peoples of the Soviet Union. And all talk of revising the outcome of the war will be resolutely suppressed. He added that Serbs were one of the most affected European and world nations in proportion to their numbers.

Vučić would like the Immortal Regiment action in Belgrade to be second only to the Russian capital. The president promised that if his colleague Vladimir Putin invited him to a celebration in Russia, he would again walk through the streets of Moscow with a portrait of his grandfather.

As Russkiy Mir reported, in Serbia, the action reached an all-time high. The number of public organizations that want to help the procession is increasing annually. In all cities, the initiators of the action were Serbian-Russian public associations, veterans and enthusiasts. Support for the regiment is provided by authorities at all levels. Last year, ten Serbian cities joined the Immortal Regiment. Residents of Serbia stood in the procession for the fourth time.
