Washington did not issue visas to eight Russians who were going to attend the meeting of the First Committee of the UN General Assembly, TASS reported. Diplomats, employees of the Ministry of Defense and Roscosmos are among them.

This was stated by Deputy Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva Andrey Belousov during a speech at the committee meeting. In his opinion, a representative delegation would have enabled Russia to discuss all issues fully and thoroughly.

The diplomat has added that the visa issue has become more acute recently. In total, almost two dozen people were unable to come to the session of the UN General Assembly because of the United States. And although more than two weeks have passed, the US authorities are not trying to rectify the current situation.

Washington, Belousov emphasized, simply blocked the work of Russian representatives in the international organization. He called the policy of the US diplomats "discriminatory" in relation to Russia. Belousov drew attention to the imbalance in the number of American and Russian delegations at the committee meeting.

Representatives of Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Cuba and Belarus actively supported the Russian position.

According to Belousov, the transfer of a number of UN bodies from New York will be the only solution in the event of non-issuance of visas.
