Russian and Italian experts explored the fortresses built by the Genoese in the Crimea in different centuries. Experts plan to recreate the buildings in the form of 3D models, thanks to which it will become known how fortresses and other buildings looked centuries ago. The global goal of the project is to achieve recognition of Genoese fortresses as UNESCO monuments, the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper reports.

The study of Crimean fortresses is carried out by the Italian organization Italia Nostra, which intends to study the surviving buildings of the Genoese throughout Europe. Having visited the structures in Crimea, Italians gave different assessments of the condition of the monuments.

At the moment, it was decided to recreate the appearance of the fortresses in the form of volumetric models, which will help to consider them from all sides, since a number of buildings are poorly visible from the ground. Work on the shooting of buildings has already begun. In the future, it is planned to place QR codes on the objects with the help of which tourists can see what the fortress looked like after construction.

The Genoese lived in Crimea from the 13th to the 15th centuries; buildings and fortifications in Sudak, Feodosia and other cities of Crimea have survived to this day. Russkiy Mir reported that one of the results of the work of scientists of the two countries should be the preparation of cultural and educational tourist routes. The completion of the project is scheduled for 2029.
