Days of St. Petersburg open in Riga

Days of St. Petersburg begin on Thursday, October 17, in the Latvian capital, the news agency Nevsky Novosti reports. The city will be represented by employees of the city administration and institutions with partners in Riga. The delegation will be led by Deputy Governor Vladimir Knyaginin.

One of the central events of the visit of guests from the Northern capital will be the laying of flowers at the monument to the Soldier-Liberator of Riga. The ceremony is timed to the anniversary of the liberation of the city.

The business program brings together several round tables where participants from Russia and Latvia will discuss relevant topics of education, healthcare and housing. The problems of preservation of historical heritage sites and the development of theaters will also be discussed. St. Petersburg specialists will share work experience with colleagues from Riga. They will also study objects of wooden architecture and learn how they can be used in modern conditions. Educational and cultural institutions of the two cities will sign cooperation documents

Guests from St. Petersburg are also going to hold a meeting with activists of organizations of Russian compatriots, veterans of the Great Patriotic War and blockades who live in the Baltic Republic. They will present books in Russian to organizations of compatriots.

In addition to the business part, a large cultural program is expected. Residents of Riga will be invited to the NeOPERA gala concert. The evening of the Russian romance song called City of People in Love is also planned, as well as a 3D exhibition dedicated to historical and cultural sights of St. Petersburg. Master classes in vocals and Russian folk crafts will be held during the forum.
