Russia and Saudi Arabia plan to expand cooperation in the field of culture, RIA Novosti reports. The heads of departments of the two countries Vladimir Medinsky and Badr bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Farhan Al-Saud signed the corresponding document. The memorandum is valid for five years.

The document notes that both countries will help strengthen cooperation in cinema and museum business and engage in joint projects. The training of cultural figures is also planned. The countries will work together to preserve the historical heritage, exchange the tours of performers and performance groups.

According to Medinsky, the memorandum is a traditional framework agreement. Thanks to its signing, it will be easier to cooperate to cultural institutions of both countries.

The head of the department called the interaction between the Hermitage, the Consortium of Russian museums and the Ministry of Culture of Saudi Arabia the most interesting project to date. He noted that negotiations were ongoing and expressed hope that they would end by December.

In addition, Saudi Arabia will participate next year at the St. Petersburg Cultural Forum in the status of a guest country. An agreement was reached during negotiations between the Deputy Head of the Russian Government Olga Golodets and the Minister of Culture of Saudi Arabia.

The governments of the two countries also signed a memorandum on the facilitation of issuing visas to their citizens.

Earlier Russkiy Mir reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin paid an official visit to Riyadh.
