Monument to Pushkin unveiled in Beijing

The monument to Pushkin has been installed in the capital of China, TASS reports. The monument appeared on the territory of Beijing Pedagogical University - the country's main higher educational institution, which prepares teaching staff. The author of the monument to the great Russian poet was the famous Chinese sculptor Li Bin.

According to the Russian ambassador Andrey Denisov, Pushkin’s works are well known to local residents, many in China are very fond of the poet’s books. The diplomat is sure that the new monument is a reflection of the readers' warm feelings for Pushkin. Speakers at the opening ceremony noted that the first monument dedicated to Pushkin appeared in China a long time ago. It was established in Shanghai and timed to the centenary of the death of the poet.

The president of the Chinese Association for the Study of Russian Literature, professor at the Metropolitan Pedagogical University, cavalier of the Russian Order of Friendship Liu Wenfei noted that this monument to the poet was of great importance for students studying Russian language and culture. According to him, thanks to the monument, students will feel the presence of Pushkin and the proximity of Russian literature every day.
