The "Czech nightingale" Karel Gott passed away

The famous Czech singer Karel Gott passed away, according to RIA Novosti. He died in the 81st year of life on the night of October 2. The last years of his life, the musician struggled with a serious illness.

The singer was very popular and performed dozens of times in the Soviet Union and in Russia, he was always received very warmly. His Russian fans even organized the Karel Gott Club. During his long career, the singer recorded more than two thousand songs, his albums diverged in millions of copies. Only in the USSR four and a half million copies of the Karel Gott album were sold.

Gott always worked hard, his tour schedule remained packed almost until the last days of his life. In many countries he was called the "Czech nightingale", he starred in several dozen features, he was often invited to play himself.

The singer himself admitted that he treated his Russian fans with great warmth. He noted that he treasured their love. His last concerts in Moscow and a number of other Russian cities took place in the mid-2000s and, as always, gathered full halls.

Songs performed by Gott from Three Nuts for Cinderella movie and Maya the Little Bee cartoon are very popular all over the world. In Germany, these songs, performed by Gott in German, are part of the compulsory school curriculum.

As a sign of love and admiration for creativity, for the contribution to the development of friendly relations between Russia and the Czech Republic, in 2016 Karel Gott was awarded the Silver Archer - Czech Republic prize in the Person nomination.
