New York Film Festival to screen Russian film for the first time in recent years

Russian film  for the first time in recent years to be screened at the 57th New York Film Festival that launches today, September, 27, TASS reports. The Beanpole  by promising young director Kantemir Balagov to be shown two times in the early October.   

Let us remember, Russian cinema was presented last time in 2010 with  Alesey Fedorchenko’s Silent Souls. 

The festival stays outside of other film events because there are now contests or prizes. New York Film Festival aims to promote best commercial, indie  and avant-garde films of the recent year.

There are movies from 17 countries this year, including Parasite by S. Korean director Bong Joon-ho, Marriage Story by US director Noah Baumbach, Portrait of a Lady on Fire by French director Céline Sciamma. Also several movies that were already screened at the Cannes to be part of the NYFF. 
 
As we reported earlier, Russia has selected Kantemir Balagov's Dylda (Beanpole) feature as its submission for the best international feature film category at the 2020 Oscars. The film tells the dramatic story of women struggling to survive in the aftermath of World War 2.
