The French city of Lille will host the Trans-Siberian Art Festival in December, the Russkiy Ochevidets newspaper reports. Its initiator and permanent artistic director Vadim Repin explained that the title of the festival resembled the name in of the Trans-Siberian Railway on purpose. According to the famous violinist, it was laid to connect the West and the East. The festival also aims to build a bridge between different cultures.

The festival was first held six years ago in the homeland of the musician, in Novosibirsk. Over the years, its geography has gradually expanded, and other cities have joined it. The festival is designed for foreign audiences. For the first time, the route of the cultural forum was laid through France. It will also be held for the first time in Germany, France and South Korea. American and Japanese audience is already familiar with  the Trans-Siberian Art Festival and expects it once again.

The choice fell precisely on Lille, because it serves as a crossroads of railways, from where trains leave for different European cities. In addition, Vadim Repin is sure that cultural figures should perform not only in capitals, but also in the provinces.

According to Jean-Claude Casadesus, who has led the National Orchestra in Lille for more than forty years, the festival program will be held under the «A stop for youth» motto.

Not only musicians who have already earned world fame, but young performers as well will enter the stage. The Ural Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Ile-de-France Youth Orchestra and many others will perform. The concert program will include works by Tchaikovsky, Glinka, Shostakovich. In addition, novice performers will be invited to master classes by their experienced colleagues.
