Moscow cooperates with 260 organizations of compatriots abroad

Moscow occupies a leading position among all Russian regions in terms of work with compatriots living abroad. This was told by representative of Moscow government, Sergey Cheremin, during a speech at a round-table meeting devoted to the problems of compatriots, Moscow 24 information agency reports. The meeting took place in the Estonian capital, where the Days of Moscow were held.

According to the head of the department of foreign economic and international relations, the Moscow authorities are cooperating with various organizations of compatriots from around the world. Cheremin explained that their number reached two hundred and sixty.

Moscow provides medical equipment to veterans of the Great Patriotic War living in other countries. Another important event is the Pushkin Competition, in which Russian language teachers from abroad take part.

Russkiy Mir reported that the Pushkin contest was created almost two decades ago, it is organized by the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper and the Moscow government. Every year, as part of the competition, Russian language teachers working in different countries of the world write essays on a given topic. Authors of the best works come to Moscow, where a large excursion and educational program awaits them.

This year, for the first time in the past few years, Ukrainian teachers openly arrived in the Russian capital, Cheremin said. Previously, they did not want to make their participation in the contest known and asked to not mention them in the media.

Cheremin also promised that the Moscow government would not stop awarding scholarships of the mayor of Moscow to compatriots.
