The Russian theater season has kicked off in Cyprus for the second time. Performances of Russian actors began on the stage of the Russian Center for Science and Culture (RCSC), located in Nicosia, TASS reports.

The program was opened by the Moscow Armenian Theater. Its artistic director Slava Stepanyan said that the troupe brought three performances to Cyprus. “The Proposal”, based on the works of Anton Chekhov, and “The Three Little Pigs” tale for young viewers will be performed in Russian with Greek subtitles.

Another performance - “The Rubik's Cube, or Geometry of Love” - will be presented in Armenian, Russian subtitles will accompany the text of the actors. Stepanyan recalled that one of the productions - “The Proposal” - won first place at the theater festival held in Avignon.

An important part of the program was the opening of the Russian-Armenian Theater Festival in Nicosia. This is a new RCSC project implemented in Cyprus, where the number of the Armenian community reaches three thousand people. Vartkez Makhtesyan, representing the community in the Cypriot parliament, called the festival a good example of intercultural dialogue.

Russian Theater Seasons in Cyprus will last from September 2019 to May 2020. The international project is carried out under the auspices of the President of Cyprus, Nikos Anastasiadis. Young and adult viewers will be able to see dozens of performances by Russian actors.

Russkiy Mir reported that the first seasons were held on Cyprus since October 2018. They included more than forty events held in six cities of Cyprus.
