Exhibition dedicated to works of Vera Mukhina opened in Riga

An exhibition dedicated to the work of Vera Mukhina has opened in the capital of Latvia, IA Sputnik reports. The exposition dedicated the life of the famous sculptor is located in the House of Moscow. This year marks the 130th anniversary of the sculptor’s birth. The organizer was the Latvian Mukhina Society, the exhibits are provided by the Latvian Art Museum and the Latvian Academic Library.

The exhibition was included in the program of the Days of Moscow, which also started in Tallinn.

Riga is the hometown of the sculptor. Vera Mukhina was born there in 1889. At that time, the city was part of the Livonia province of the Russian Empire. Her native house on Turgenev street has survived to this day.

The sculptor's works are highly appreciated by experts, many of them are known throughout the world.

One of the most famous on is Worker and Collective Farm Girl. For many decades, it adorns the square in front of the entrance to All-Russian Exhibition Center in Moscow.

In addition, the sculpture is well known to moviegoers, as it is the symbol of Mosfilm. In the thirties, it made a splash at the World Fair in the French capital. Visitors even requested the sale of Mukhina’s work, but the leadership of the Soviet Union did not agree.

The "Peasant Woman" sculpture is kept in the exposition of the Vatican Museum. Monuments to Maxim Gorky in Nizhny Novgorod and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky in Moscow also belong to the hand of the famous sculptor.
