The United States have returned to Russia more than a dozen historical documents, TASS reports. The ceremony of transferring the imperial decrees took place on Wednesday, September 18. The rarities bearing the signature of the last Russian emperor Nicholas II were kept in the archives but were stolen in the nineties of the last century. Twenty years later, experts from the Department of Culture found that the documents were put up for auction at one of the American auctions. The documents were returned with the assistance of US law enforcement.

According to American Ambassador John Huntsman, today's event is proof that the interaction between the two countries can lead to excellent results. The diplomat expressed regret that bilateral cooperation was not going through the best of times. He has no doubt that steps that are beneficial for both parties and that bring benefits will help restore confidence and raise it to a higher level.

The head of the American diplomatic mission added that Russia and the United States cooperated in many areas, including the fight against international terrorism and illegal drug trafficking. Huntsman called the return of historical values ​​the success of cooperation in the field of law enforcement cooperation.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of Rosarchive, the Russian Military Historical Society, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.
