19th anniversary of Evgeny Primakov celebrated in Nicosia

The anniversary of the famous Russian politician and prominent scientist Evgeny Primakov was celebrated in Cyprus, TASS reported. The festive evening in Nicosia took place on September 17. The embassy of the Russian Federation acted as its organizer.

The widow of the statesman Irina Primakova became the guest of honor. According to her, despite the fact that there is still a month and a half left before the anniversary date, she asked to hold events right then. Primakov will turn 90 on October 29. The academician Primakov loved Cyprus very much, he spent a lot of time there in the last years of his life.

The representatives of the authorities of the Republic of Cyprus, the employees of the Russian embassy, ​​public figures and diplomats gathered to commemorate the politician. Ambassador of the Russian Federation Stanislav Osadchiy called Primakov "the great citizen of our country." He is sure that his contribution to the development of our country cannot be overestimated.

Russkiy Mir reported that Primakov passed away in the summer of 2015. In the nineties of the last century, he led the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, the Russian Foreign Ministry, then headed the Government of the Russian Federation.

The representative of the Cyprus Foreign Ministry Michalis Ioannou called Primakov "a reasonable and principled politician." He did a lot for Russia to take its rightful place in the multipolar world. The evening was also attended by the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus Ioannis Kasoulides.

The exhibition about the life and work of Primakov started on the evening. The exhibition includes documents and photographs of the Archive of Russian Foreign Policy. The guests of the evening also saw The Man from Life documentary filmed by director Radik Kudoyarov. The evening ended with a concert performance by the Greek pianist Statis Anninos.

The Russian Society of Political Scientists established Evgeny Primakov prize. It is awarded for the contribution to the development of Russian political science. The Russian government provides to students of Lomonosov Moscow State University Lomonosov and Moscow State University of Foreign Affairs a new scholarship, which bears the name of the diplomat. The monument to Primakov is installed in the capital of Egypt.
