Russian and Chinese universities have begun to implement a major project called “Teacher of the Great Silk Road of the 21st Century,” the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper writes. According to the rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University Victor Sadovnichy, this project, like some others, will help strengthen the ties between the two countries in the educational sphere.

It is planned to create a whole system of teaching Russian and Chinese languages. It will be implemented in countries located throughout the historical Silk Road.

This and other issues were discussed at the 7th Forum of Rectors of Universities of Russia and China, held in Moscow as part of the work of the Russian-Chinese Intergovernmental Commission on Humanitarian Cooperation.

Sadovnichy recalled that an agreement was also signed on the creation of the Youth Union, which would become one of the tools for the development of this project.

Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Tatyana Golikova is sure that the volume of student exchanges between Russian and Chinese higher education institutions the following year would amount to one hundred thousand people. She recalled that this figure already exceeded ninety thousand.

More than two hundred and fifty agreements on cooperation concluded between Russia and China. Students of two hundred Russian educational institutions are studying the Chinese language, and Russian in China is taught in more than six hundred universities.
