The Holy Synod integrates the head of the Archdiocese of the Western European Parishes of Russian Tradition as well as clergy and parishes who wish to follow him, to join the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC).  Earlier, the head of the “Russian exarchate”, Archbishop John (Renneto), requested the entry into the jurisdiction of the Russian Orthodox Church and the introduction of canonical communion and unity with the Moscow Patriarchate, the website of the Moscow Patriarchate reports.

According to the archbishop, in the near future representatives of the Orthodox parishes of Western Europe will arrange a meeting, after which they will make proposals to the Russian Orthodox Church on the canonical form of their organization.

The members of the Holy Synod approved the decision on the admission of Archbishop John and clergymen who expressed a desire to join the Russian Orthodox Church in the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate. According to the decree, the archbishop remains the head of Western European parishes and receives the title of Dubninsky.

The archbishopric of Western European parishes emerged in 1921, ten years later they joined the Patriarchate of Constantinople. Representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church note that this happened due to historical circumstances. The then head of the “Russian exarchate”, Metropolitan Evlogy, called this decision a temporary measure until the restoration of “central church authority”. Representatives of West European Russian churches appealed for a return to the bosom of the Russian Orthodox Church back in 1945.

Russkiy Mir reported that more than 58 percent of the delegates (104 people) of the General Assembly of the Archdiocese of Russian Orthodox Churches in Western Europe, held on September 7, supported the accession to the Russian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate. Earlier it was reported about the decision of Constantinople to withdraw from the patriarchate of Archbishop John of Hariupol and transfer the Russian parishes in France to the jurisdiction of Metropolitan of Gallic Emanuel. In the fall of 2018, the Patriarchate of Constantinople announced the dissolution of the West European exarchate of Russian parishes.
