Foil fencer Valentina Sidorova included in Fencing Hall of Fame

Soviet athlete Valentina Sidorova is included in the Hall of Fame of the International Fencing Federation (FIE), the website of the Russian Fencing Federation reports.

Sidorova was a member of the women's team of the Soviet Union for almost fifteen years. She won the champion title at the 1976 Olympic Games in team competition. Four years later, she also placed a silver award in team performance on the record of achievements. She won the world tournament nine times: twice in the individual championship and seven times in the team one. Sidorova became the silver medalist of the world championships twice, one time - the owner of a bronze medal, and she won the World Cup four times.

Note that last summer the Russian fencing team, which won three gold medals at the World Championships in Budapest, took first place in the medal standings, ending the pre-Olympic season on a positive note. All gold medals were brought to the team by women, the foil fencer Inna Deriglazova became two-time championship winner.
