The Russian theme has become one of the loudest and brightest at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), which opened for the 44th time, the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper reports. The official program included Kantemir Balagov's Beanpole, which won several international awards. Within the framework of the festival, the Made in Moscow platform was opened, where more than 20 Russian features and animated films will be presented to the leading film producers of the world.

Beanpole, the story of which takes place in the post-war Leningrad, has earned high marks not only among film critics and the festival jury, but also among distributors. On the eve of the opening of the festival in Toronto, it became known about the release of the feature in movie theaters of the United States and Canada.

In addition to Russian features and films shot with Russia’s participation, the program of the festival includes films about Russia. One of them will is Red Penguins by Gabe Polsky, a documentary telling about the outstanding Russian hockey players of the 1990s.

The largest event for Russian cinema, according to experts and journalists, was the opening of the Made in Russia platform, which will allow to present Russian features and cartoons shot in recent years to foreign distributors, buyers and selectors of leading world festivals. The very first event showed great interest in contemporary Russian cinema.

The site was organized by the Moscow Export Center.
