Week of the North Caucasus kicked off in Bulgaria

11.09.2019

The Week of the North Caucasus in Bulgaria Festival started in the city of Burgas on September 10, TASS reports. Within seven days, residents and guests of the Balkan country will be able to assess the cultural, business and tourism potential of the southern Russian regions, establish contacts and agree on cooperation.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the festival, the Russian consul in Varna Vladimir Klimanov called the event a breakthrough for bilateral relations. He emphasized that the regions of the North Caucasus were distinguished by rich traditions, hospitality, wonderful landscapes, amazing cuisine, so that every guest from Bulgaria could find something to their liking and recharge with positive emotions.

The festival program includes a tourist investment forum. Business sessions, concerts and an exhibition of handicrafts are scheduled within the festival. In addition to Burgas, events will be held in Varna and Nessebar.

The head of the tourism department of Bulgaria Luben Kinchev noted the absence of a language barrier between the peoples of the two countries. He added that there were over 1600 mineral springs in Bulgaria, so the joint development of balneo and spa tourism, as well as cultural and historical contacts had good prospects.

The festival is organized by the Visit the Caucasus Fund with the assistance of the Russian Ministry of Caucasus, the Bulgarian Ministry of Tourism, Rossotrudnichestvo, the Federal Agency for Tourism, and the authorities of the subjects of the North-Caucasian Federal District. It was a consequence of the agreements concluded between the prime ministers of the two countries during a trip to Bulgaria Dmitry Medvedev last spring.

Russia and Bulgaria were always united by a common history, Orthodox faith and a common cultural code, according to the Russian ambassador to Bulgaria Anatoly Makarov. He stated this in connection with the 140th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The ambassador recalled that thousands of Russian soldiers gave their lives for the freedom of Bulgaria. Countries have accumulated huge experience from hundreds of bilateral projects in various fields.
