Sofia will become the first European capital, where the public will see a traveling display. In addition to Bulgaria, it will be shown in France, Switzerland, the United States, Israel, the Baltic countries, the former Soviet republics, Austria and Norway.

The Russian Museum of Modern History, the archives of foreign policy, the Ministry of Defense and the socio-political history of Russia provided their materials for the exhibition. The documents tell about the losses suffered by the Red Army during the liberation of Eastern Europe from fascism, the humanitarian aid to the population and much more.

The text for the exhibition was translated into twelve languages and adapted for demonstration in the states where Soviet troops took part in the fights.

The Museum of Modern History has also produced a series of videos. They are based on archival materials and historical chronicle; they will be posted on the websites of Russian embassies.

Russkiy Mir reported that the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry called the exhibition an interference in the internal affairs of the state and also called for not considering the Soviet Union’s struggle against Nazism the liberation of Europe. The Russian embassy expressed bewilderment at such a reaction. Diplomats emphasized that the exhibition in the Bulgarian capital is not related to the local political situation. Its task is to acquaint everyone with archival documents stored in Russian funds. Many of these materials have only recently been declassified, they have not been exhibited before, and they contain information about the decisive role of the Red Army in ridding humanity of fascism. It is very strange to hear such a reaction from politicians who have not even seen the exhibition, the embassy noted.
