Many natural languages belonging to different families and groups have similarities in the speed of information transfer. Such a discovery was made by French scientists who analyzed the speech of native speakers of 17 different languages, the news portal Evo-rus reports.

A study of the speech of almost two hundred native speakers of natural languages showed that they had a total information transfer rate of 39.15 bits per second. This is surprising since languages differ from each other in the length of words and sentences. For example, in English there are about seven thousand syllables, and in Japanese - several hundred.

The fact that the speakers of these languages transmit information with the same speed indicates a different information density of syllables in different languages. This allowed scientists to conclude that speakers of languages that are distinguished by a high information richness speak slower, while peoples known for fast speech speak languages with a lower density.

In the entire history of mankind, from 4 to 7 thousand languages arose on the planet. For many years, scientists have been trying to understand what all languages have in common. In 2018, another discovery was made: researchers determined that speakers of many languages slow down the process of speaking before pronouncing nouns.
