Despite the toughening of the sanctions policy by the US authorities, American business continues to work in the Russian market, which is profitable for it, and intends to remain in it the future. This was stated in an interview with the Izvestia newspaper by Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov.

The diplomat’s words are confirmed by numbers: in the first six months of this year, when several sanctions packages were introduced, trade between Russia and the United States grew by 14% and almost reached $ 14 billion. The Russian ambassador admitted that sanctions harmed the development of economic ties between the two countries. At the same time, he spoke about the pragmatism of American businessmen who were looking into the future.

According to Antonov, American investors are eager to invest in the extractive and food industries of the Russian economy. The geography of investments is expanding, companies from the United States work not only in the European part of Russia, but also show an increasing interest in the Far East.

According to Antonov, interest is supported, among other things, thanks to Russian-American Pacific Partnership Forum, which is attended by representatives of government, business and science of the two countries. The visits of American businessmen to the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok have also become more frequent.

The Russian ambassador also noted another growth point - tourism. The number of American tourists in Russia is increasing, and anti-Russian attacks by the US authorities in recent years have not affected the interest of ordinary Americans in Russia. According to Antonov, this testifies to the distrust of US citizens in their own media, which publish negative articles and reports about Russia.
