The Russian and Mongolian troops marked the 80th anniversary of the victory on the Khalkhin-Gol River, with a festive parade, RIA Novosti reports. It took place in the Mongolian city of Choibalsan. The military personnel who participated in the joint Seleng exercises at the Munkh Khet training ground marched solemnly during the parade. Helicopters from the air base of the Eastern Military District flew over the memorial to the heroes of Mongolia. Aviation participated in the celebrations for the first time.

In addition, senior Russian officers and representatives of the defense department of Mongolia laid flowers at the monument and honored the soldiers who died in 1939 on the battlefields. For the first time, a procession of the Immortal Regiment took place there. Its participants carried photographs of their ancestors who fought on Khalkhin Gol.

The celebration was also attended by veterans, participants of the youth military-patriotic social movement, public organizations from Transbaikalia and Buryatia. An exhibition of military equipment of Russia and Mongolia was organized on the flank platforms of the memorial.

In addition, on August 28, events dedicated to the anniversary date started in Ulan Bator. The Song and Dance Ensemble of the Russian Army named after Alexandrov, together with the Mongolian performers gave a concert on the Sukhbaatar Square, the audience was also pleased with the performance of Russian Knights. Festive fireworks were accompanied by the applause of the audience and the Victory Day song.

Earlier the machines of seventeen soldiers of the Red Army, who died during the fighting near the Khalkhin-Gol River, were discovered by a search detachment. Unfortunately, it was not possible to establish the names of the dead.

Let us remember that in 1939, after a series of provocations, the Japanese decided on a large-scale invasion in the Khalkhin-Gol River region, where they subsequently wanted to build a railway. Military reinforcements from Moscow came to Mongolia, the Soviet group was led by Georgy Zhukov. The Japanese also strengthened their military presence in the region. Decisive battles took place in August, when the Red Army defeated the Japanese group in six days by joint efforts of aviation and artillery, taking troops into the encirclement. During the hostilities, the Soviet side lost about ten thousand people. The loss of the Japanese, according to historians, was six times higher.
