Russian singer Sergey Kaydalov won international vocal competition in Oslo

The first prize at the Queen Sonja International Music Competition, which was held in Oslo, was awarded to Russian soloist Sergey Kaydalov, the Kultura TV channel reports. The winner received the award from the hands of the royal person.

The prestigious competition was first held in the late eighties. It is carried out every two years. Initially, only pianists participated in it, but then it became a vocal competition.

More than three hundred soloists from fifty countries from around the fought for victory this year. After the qualifying round in the semifinals, forty people demonstrated their skills and talents. Only six vocalists reached the finals, and the Russian baritone among them. The second was the young German soloist Stefan Astakhov, the top three leader was a singer from Poland Adam Kutny.

After the award ceremony, Sergey Kaydalov performed Renato’s aria from Verdi's Masked Ball and Tartaglia’s aria from Mascagni's Masks. He currently performs on the stage of the Mariinsky Theater and he is invited to sing in theaters of France, Germany, China and other countries.
