Russian feature recognized as best international film at Las Vegas Festival

The film of Russian director Mederbek Zhalilov called Shailoo has won one of the main awards at the International film festival in Las Vegas. The Russian feature became the winner in the Best International Film category, the Infox.ru website reports.

Features from India, Norway, Colombia and Paraguay also fought for victory in the prestigious nomination. According to Zhalilov, Shailoo is participating in several more international festivals and can possibly win more awards. The director promised to upload the feature on the Internet before the end of the year.

The filmography of Mederbek Zhalilov includes several features and series, which were screened in cinemas and on the channels of the city of Kurgan, where the director lives. Zhalilov is originally from Kyrgyzstan but decided to start a career in cinema after moving to Russia.

Russkiy Mir reported that in 2019 Russian filmmaker Kantemir Balagov was named the best director in Un Certain Regard section of Cannes Film Festival for his feature Beanpole.
