The Living History holiday, dedicated to the 1031th anniversary of the Baptism of Russia, has been held in Fort Ross National Historical Park, which preserves the memory of the first Russian settlement in California. Church services and a sacred procession as well as events dedicated to the history of the fort and Russian America were held during the celebrations, the Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots Organizations (CCRCO) in the USA reported on its Facebook.

Living History is a traditional event that takes place in the California National Park on the last Saturday of July. The holiday opened with a church service that was held at the Trinity Chapel of Fort by the ecclesiarch of the St. Nicholas Patriarchal Cathedral of San Francisco Alexy Bykon.

After the service priests and parishioners walked the sacred procession, recalling the founders and inhabitants of the Russian settlement. Father Alexy congratulated the parishioners on the Day of the Baptism of Russia. The celebration continued in Fort Ross Park. The park staff prepared an informative and entertaining program for the guests. According to historians and clergy, Fort Ross is a unique monument that reminds Russians and Americans of the pages of a common history and spiritual affinity.

The Living History holiday is not limited to Fort Ross park ties with Russia and Russian compatriots. Russkiy Mir reported that annually, in early August, there was a chime of bells and a teleconference between California and the Vologda town of Totma, in which the founder of the fort Ivan Kuskov, was born and died.
