Vice-President of Russian Tennis Federation Yevgeny Kafelnikov became the second Russian to be introduced to the Tennis Hall of Fame. At the ceremony, which took place in Newport, the USA, Kafelnikov said that throughout his life he would be responsible for including his name in the prestigious list of outstanding tennis players, TASS reports.

Three years ago, Marat Safin became the first Russian tennis player to be honored to stand in the same row with the legends of world tennis. Yevgeny Kafelnikov, who began his professional career before Safin, achieved significant international success. For example, Kafelnikov was the first Russian to win the Grand Slam singles tournament. He has won Olympic gold, a number of victories in the French Open, as well as the Davis Cup.

Note that the Tennis Hall of Fame was founded in 1954 in the United States. Foreign athletes began to be included in the prestigious list only in 1975. Soviet athlete Natalia Zvereva is also included in the Tennis Hall of Fame.
