Director Pavel Lungin celebrates his 70th anniversary

Famous Russian director Pavel Lungin celebrates his 70th anniversary on Friday, July 12, TASS reports. He is holding the festive date with his closest friends and relatives far from Moscow. Lungin went to Montenegro and has no plans for big celebrations yet. According to him, it is possible that celebration for everyone will be organized in the fall. 

The director said that he is working on a large international project now. He did not disclose its details. He also wants to make a series based on the Steep Route book by Evgenia Ginzburg.

Pavel Lungin was born in a Moscow intelligent family. His father Semyon Lungin was a screenwriter, and his mother Lilianna Lungina was a translator. Thanks to her the children in the Soviet Union became acquainted with the works of Astrid Lindgren. 

Lungin received his first education at the Department of Structural and Applied Linguistics of Lomonosov Moscow State University. Then he started cinema education and graduated from the Director Department of the Higher Courses of Scriptwriters and Directors. 

He started his cinema career as a screenwriter. His debut as a director brought him the prize of the Cannes Film Festival. He was noted for Taxi Blues, where the main role was played by Peter Mamonov, in 1990. Pavel Lungin is known for his movies The Wedding, The Island, Tycoon and others. He repeatedly became the winner of the leading Russian film awards. His latest film, Leaving Afghanistan, dedicated to the war in Afghanistan, was released this year. 

President Vladimir Putin congratulated the leader of Russian cinema on the anniversary. He called Pavel Lungin a real master who made a great contribution to the world cinema. According to the Head of state, the talented and informative movies of the hero of the day allow people to look at many familiar things from a different angle. Vladimir Putin believes that the work of Lungin always become a prominent event in cultural life.
