Days of Russian culture are beginning in the Cuban capital on Friday, June 21, the website of the World Coordination Council of Russian Compatriots Organizations reports. They are held by the representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo with the assistance of the Office of the Historian of Havana and Russian Embassy.

The festival program will begin with the Modern Russia presentation, which will be held in one of the city libraries. Three photo exhibitions will also work. One of them is dedicated to the life and work of Ivan Turgenev, whose anniversary was celebrated this year. The second is called Children's Faces of Russia. The third was prepared by Russian Geographical Society. The exposition entitled The Most Beautiful Country includes images that won the eponymous competition. Photos are devoted to historical sights and natural beauty of Russia.

An exhibition about the Patriotic War of 1812 will open in the Napoleon Museum. The History of Russian Diaspora in Cuba presentation will be held at the opening of Russian Children of Havana exhibition, dedicated to the 500th anniversary of Havana.

The first Russian settlements in Cuba appeared in 1915. In the middle of the century, the diaspora was replenished with Soviet specialists and the military. At the moment, about 5–6 thousand Russian compatriots live on the Island of Freedom, mainly in Havana.
